Asia Mega Famil kicks off at Harbourfront Seafood
Harbourfront Seafood wows international guests as part of the Business Events Australia Asia Mega Famil in Sydney.
Signalling the return of the lucrative Asian incentive market after a pandemic-induced absence, Business Events Australia recently partnered with BESydney to host a three-day famil showcase for corporate clients and incentive planners from India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Greater China, Japan and Korea.
The run sheet
The Business Events Australia Asia Mega Famil aimed to showcase the best of the harbour city, with Harbourfront Seafood serving up a bespoke dining experience for the programme’s official welcome dinner.
Following cocktails and canapés on the harbour-facing terrace, more than 50 VIP delegates were treated to sumptuous hot and cold seafood platters and a live sushi and sashimi station prepared by the expert chefs at neighbouring restaurant Bay 9 Omakase. In a true showcase of Australian produce, local beef and lamb were also served alongside a selection of locally-brewed beer and premium wine. A number of vegetarian dishes were also specially prepared to cater to the diverse dietary and religious needs of the group.
“The main challenge was to execute such a masterpiece in a short time and to impress so many different international markets with different requirements,” explained The Venues Collection International Director of Sales, Lilu Fu.
“This gave our teams across sales, marketing and operations – as well as our chefs – the opportunity to work together to deliver the unique event. Some of our team members were also able to use their language skills to communicate with delegates in their mother tongue,” she added. in
The ‘WOW’ moment
The Asia Mega Famil guests were given exclusive use of the venue’s ground floor terrace, allowing international guests to soak up the unbeatable harbour views and capture selfies with the city’s two biggest icons – the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House – in the background.
“The ‘wow’ was seeing how much the international guests loved our event – they couldn’t stop taking photos of our amazing food and venue,” Fu said.
The result
Feedback following the famil showcase has been overwhelming positive, with 77 per cent of delegates awarding the welcome dinner at Harbourfront Seafood with the top rating.
International planner from China Cyts M.I.C.E. Service Co., Katherine Tam, commented: “Sydney is fully open and more active than before. It’s great to see the potential of a booming business and incentive event market in Sydney. There are new attractions providing new facilities and services and Sydney provides unique seafood and wines. [Sydney] has always held a special place in our heart because of its liveliness.”
Tourism Australia’s Executive General Manager of Commercial and Business Events Australia, Robin Mack said: “The purpose of the showcase was to provide international planners from the Asia region with confidence to pitch Australia for their next business event, and based on the feedback I’ve heard so far, we have delivered on this. Already the showcase has generated business leads for Australia, highlighting the real tangible results of our distribution activity.”
BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, added: “Sydney Harbour provides one of the most stunning backdrops in the world, a stage like no other for our global corporate and incentive clients to motivate and inspire delegates.”
